BACKGROUND

Livingstones Kabinet Musikteater are an international theatre ensemble based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company was founded by Danish director Nina Kareis and Scottish composer Pete Livingstone. After meeting in 1994 they began to work as freelance artists on theatre and dance performances in the UK and USA. Their experiences together on these projects motivated them to begin creating their own pieces in which music, theatre and dance were combined in new and challenging ways to create a unique form of "musikdramatik". To this end they established "Livingstones Kabinet Musikteater" in the year 2000.

Awards

In the years since then, Livingstones Kabinet Musikteater have attracted a great deal of recognition and praise for their unique musical and dramatic theatre language. They have also received support from The Danish Arts Council, The Danish Arts Foundation and Copenhagen City Council's Culture Fund together with a long list of private funds and sponsors. In addition Pete Livingstone was awarded a bursary in 2010 from the music committee of The Danish Arts Foundation to develop his work as a composer. In 2008 the show Babble Babble was nominated for a Reumert Award. In the same season, Babble Babble and Herr Schreber were named by the national newspaper "Information" in their annual arts overview as two of the year's best evenings at the theatre .
Livingstones Kabinet have also released two music CDs: "Those of Us Who Sleep In Other People's House (2002) and "Dead of the Night" (2004)

Artistic partners

Although Livingstones Kabinet has been under the artistic directorship of Nina Kareis and Pete Livingstone since its formation, the company has always set a high priority on collaboration with other artists. A broad spectrum of performers, dancers, musicians, actors, singers, set-designers, dramaturgs and chorepgraphers have been, and continue to be engaged to meet the requirements of individual projects. Some of these artists have gone on to become part of the company's creative think-tank, an active forum for the development of projects and ideas.
